What are the 3 biggest mistakes in designing a behavior change program?

Mistake 1: Assuming that all of the people coming into your program are ready for action.

In fact, most people who enter a program are in contemplation. They’re still figuring out what they want to do. So don’t make all of your activities action. You’ll lose people. Include some activities that are about reflection and exploration.

Mistake 2: Focus only on sharing knowledge.

Knowing something is not the same as doing it. Knowledge is not a great predictor of behavior change. Feelings are a much better predictor. If you can help someone understand how they feel about the change, you’ll get them farther along to be able to make the change.

Mistake 3: Making your brand or your product the hero of the story.

Your brand or your product is only the help in the story. Your participant is the hero. Celebrate them.
